Community Animal Hospital provides around the clock care for our patients, with one of our hospital's doctors on call 24/7. We offer rapid response and excellent care close to home. We have the advantage of knowing your pet's lifestyle and medical history. During our regular business hours, our veterinarians, medical staff and resources are available to help you with any emergency your pet experiences. If possible, please call in advance so we can prepare for your arrival. Should your pet experience an emergency when the hospital is closed, please call the hospital's main phone number at (410) 822-4475. The doctor on call will be paged and will return your call promptly. If your pet requires an intensive care unit or unusual medical or surgical services, we can refer the patient to Anne Arundel Veterinary Emergency Care once they are stabilized.

When Should I Seek Emergency Care for My Pet?

The easiest answer as to whether you should seek emergency care for your pet is when you feel his or her medical condition is serious and cannot wait. However, the following general situations should help you determine if you need to seek emergency care:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Acute abdominal swelling
  • Electric shock
  • Excessive vomiting or diarrhea
  • Bleeding
  • Exhibits symptoms of heat stroke
  • Seizures
  • Sudden onset of weakness
  • High or low temperature (more than 104 or less than 100 degrees)
  • Inability to urinate or defecate
