Community Animal Hospital offers rapid response and excellent care close to home. We have the advantage of knowing your pet's lifestyle and medical history. During regular business hours, our veterinarians, medical staff and resources are available to help you with any emergency your pet may experience. If possible, please call us at 410-822-4475 so that we can prepare for your arrival. If your pet requires an intensive care unit or unusual medical or surgical services, we can refer the patient to Anne Arundel Veterinary Emergency Care once they are stabilized.

Should an emergency arise when the hospital is closed, your pet can receive emergency vet care at Emergency Animal Hospital of Ellicott City. Emergency services are also available at Anne Arundel Veterinary Emergency Care (AAVEC) in Annapolis (410-224-0331) and at BluePearl Pet Hospital Christiana in Newark, Delaware (302-322-6933).

After-hours Emergency Telehealth Services

Community Animal Hospital is partnered with VetTriage, a 24 hour service that connects you with a live video chat with a veterinarian. When Should I Seek Emergency Care for My Pet?

The easiest answer as to whether you should seek emergency care for your pet is when you feel his or her medical condition is serious and cannot wait. However, the following general situations should help you determine if you need to seek emergency care:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Acute abdominal swelling
  • Electric shock
  • Excessive vomiting or diarrhea
  • Bleeding
  • Exhibits symptoms of heat stroke
  • Seizures
  • Sudden onset of weakness
  • High or low temperature (more than 104 or less than 100 degrees)
  • Inability to urinate or defecate
